We’re filled with mixed emotions on our final Australian adventure, before we head to New Zealand: so sad to be leaving a country we’ve loved, and saying goodbye to friends new and old, but excited about our new learning experiences. After flying with our tent (yay we managed to get it on board!), Cairns to Brisbane, we picked up a hire car, and headed south.

These were our stops:

1. Tallebudgera. This was a quick stopover en route to Yamba, where we were intrigued how Doug and Yvette had rescued an old Queenslander house, relocated it, restored it to its former glory and extended it with a modern spacious outdoor living verandah. The couple were featured on Australia’s Grand Designs…if you get a chance to watch  it, do so, because it’s astounding what they achieved! We were lucky to stay in a small self-contained part of this stunning building:

2. Yamba. We ❤️ this town! Despite the squally weather, we got out and about to discover the beaches that surround it. It’s such a lovely feeling to know you have the ocean on all sides of you!

We stayed with a lovely family, in a self-contained cabin in their garden ( Albie and Lola fell in love with their happy dog, Apple, who we were lucky enough to take for beach walks!

The town is pretty quirky – right up our street. We loved the little old-fashioned cinema, op shops, chippies and friendly vibe.

Excitingly, we spotted dolphins frolicking in the crashing waves just off shore (no photo evidence, sorry!).

Just down the road is the gorgeous less-known village of Angourie. We stopped at Spooky Beach on the way…

3. Bellingen. Back to Bello for a final few farewell days with the DonScrutts. Live, laugh, love and be happy…we will treasure all these special moments forever.

Ok, this post is turning out quite long, so it continues…read on to next post!
